Chagossian Voices and the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (ITLOS)

In October 2022, a special chamber of ITLOS heard the Dispute concerning the delimitation of the maritime boundary between Mauritius and Maldives in the Indian Ocean.

This came about as result of the ICJ advisory opinion of 2019, which said Mauritius should have sovereignty of the islands. Since Chagossian Voices rejects the judgment of the court on the basis that Chagossians were not represented. We wrote a representation to the court and to the judges of the special chamber.

The letter was received and passed on to the judges and we await a response. Our statement attracted considerable interest in the Maldives, receiving press coverage amd a new Maldives following for us on Twitter.
